The Principal Facility Siting Engineer serves as a technical leader, managing and executing complex facility siting and hazard analysis projects within the chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries. This role is responsible for delivering expert guidance in advanced consequence modeling, quantitative risk assessment, and regulatory compliance, ensuring client facilities meet or exceed industry standards for safety and operational integrity. The Principal Facility Siting Engineer collaborates closely with clients, project teams, and regulatory bodies to develop innovative solutions that address site-specific challenges. This position requires up to 50% travel to client sites and project locations.
What You Will Do:
Interpret and apply relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., API 752/753, OSHA PSM, NFPA).
Oversee and execute advanced hazard analyses for dispersion (flammable/toxic), explosion, and fire scenarios using available software tools.
Visit client sites to educate clients on facility siting methodology and perform onsite activities (e.g., scenario development, congestion assessments).
Develop and review comprehensive technical reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and actionable recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
Serve as the primary technical contact for clients, presenting findings and guiding risk mitigation strategies.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering professional development within the team.
Support business development by preparing proposals and participating in client meetings regularly.
Stay abreast of evolving regulations, standards, and modeling technologies in facility siting and process safety, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in facility siting and risk assessment reports.
What You Will Need: Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related field.
10+ years of experience in facility siting, hazard analysis, or process safety, with a proven track record in the chemical, petrochemical, and/or pharmaceutical industries.
Expert proficiency in facility siting and risk assessment software (e.g., PHAST, SAFETI, ALOHA).
Demonstrated experience in project management and client relationship management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in DNV PHAST/SAFETI.
Proficiency in Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) software (e.g., Gexcon FLACS, OpenFOAM, KFX).
Experience with programming or scripting languages (e.g., Visual Basic, Python).
Master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
Reporting Relationships: The incumbent reports directly to the Director level or higher. This position does not have any direct reports.
