Estimating Director The Estimating Director role is responsible for meeting established sales goals and growth objectives by planning and executing necessary bidding activities. This position leads the bidding and preconstruction process, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all operational divisions. The Director establishes team goals in alignment with corporate objectives, provides oversight and performance management to the estimating department, and analyzes and approves all proposals and budget preparations.

Total Compensation $145,000.00 to $230,200.00 annually, depending on individualized compensation analysis including experience, tenure, skills, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as an integral member of the Operations Team of Leaders, working closely with department directors to drive cross-functional collaboration, and continuously improve company-wide performance and processes. Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the entire estimating and preconstruction functions, delivering clients proposals that demonstrate Fiore’s cost leadership and delivery differentiation

Assesses problem situations, gathers and processes information, generates solutions, and makes recommendations or resolves complex issues.

Ensures all business within the Estimating Department adheres to the highest ethical standards and complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company SOPs.

Leverages curiosity, customer service, expertise, and innovation to understand proposal requests by reviewing construction documents, scope of work, conducting job walks, and engaging in discussions with clients; builds and maintains strong relationships with customers throughout the bidding process.

Provides leadership and strategic vision to the estimating department, fostering a motivating work environment, supervising staff to achieve objectives, and guiding the team toward continuous improvement.

Foster a culture of leadership accountability, performance management, and professional development within the estimating team.

Lead, mentor, and develop the Senior Estimators, empowering them to effectively manage and coach their respective teams.

Oversee the full Estimating lifecycle from initial customer engagement to project kickoff ensuring excellence in all core deliverables.

Collaborate with Project Management and Operations teams to ensure accurate project handoff, including scope alignment, risk mitigation, and resource planning.

Establish, implement, and continuously improve standardized estimating processes, tools, and performance metrics across all bids.

Lead organizational efforts to analyze bid and actual production results to refine future bids and partner with operations teams to improve delivery cost accuracy.

Develops strong customer relationships and networks with key clients, partners, and industry stakeholders to support ongoing and future project opportunities.

Partner with other Operational leaders to continuously improve operational and cross functional processes.

Support talent development by coaching Senior Estimators, Estimators, and Preconstruction Manager and developing a strong bench of future talent.

Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, customer focus, and operational discipline within the estimating and preconstruction function.

Represent estimating in executive and cross-functional leadership meetings, contributing to strategic planning and backlog development.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Demonstrates strong organizational abilities with a focus on efficiency and accuracy. Possesses strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize and manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

Knowledge of civil construction estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing, along with expertise in civil disciplines, regulatory compliance, and related processes. Demonstrates skill in performing detailed quantity take-offs and preparing comprehensive cost estimates for complex projects.

Thrive in dynamic environments, exhibiting a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities, project demands, and evolving industry practices.

Expert knowledge of project management principles and the bidding process lifecycle from initial review through preconstruction and handoff to project management.

Ability to interpret complex construction documents and financial data, and proficiency in relevant estimating software (e.g., B2W Estimate, AGTEK) and Microsoft Office Suite (including Microsoft Project).

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field is preferred.

10 years of progressive experience in construction, encompassing estimating and supervision is required. This must include a minimum of 5 years within the heavy civil industry or closely related field, along with at least 5 years of direct leadership experience.

Professional experience, beyond requirements, in a related field may substitute for a bachelor’s degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Physical Demands Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time, including uneven terrain on work sites if needed. Ability to lift 25 lbs. occasionally for office supplies, filing and storage. Ability to manipulate paperwork and read a computer screen, operate computer peripherals and general office equipment for extended durations.

Work Environment Primarily office-based, with varying temperatures and extended screen time. Periodic outdoor working environments with exposure to variant weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.) and muddy ground conditions, as well as uneven terrain.
