Position Summary Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician, the OR Technician performs technical functions related to surgical asepsis and instrument preparation during surgical cases, supporting shared leadership and evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Follow established operating room policies and procedures.

Assist in the care, maintenance, distribution, and control of equipment and supplies, both sterile and unsterile, used in operating procedures.

Assist with operations as a Scrub Attendant, arranging sterile articles, passing instruments, and dressing materials while maintaining sterility and orderliness.

Complete sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the RN before, during, and after surgery according to hospital policy; report discrepancies to the Charge Nurse and attending physician.

Prepare medications (except narcotics) on the sterile field under RN direction and double‑check doses with the RN or MD before passing to the MD.

Assist with infusions under RN or MD direction and prepare the operating room for procedures before surgery.

Check equipment for proper functioning before and after each case.

Participate in the daily stocking of operating room supplies.

Initiate cleaning of OR equipment on a daily basis and ensure use of plastic covers.

Assist with instrument clean‑up during routine work hours or after‑hour cases; responsible for cleaning and packing of instruments during after‑hour cases.

Perform other duties as assigned and participate in special projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology from an approved Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation program OR current certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Surgical Technologist certification.
