Position Title: Surgical Technologist – Surgical Services (Main Operating Room)

Location: Chicago, IL, United States

Salary: $37./hr – $50/hr (actual pay based on experience and qualifications)

Work Schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Shift: Days)

Position Summary: Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician, the Surgical Technologist performs technical functions related to surgical asepsis, instrument preparation, and presentation during surgical cases. The role supports patient outcomes by upholding shared leadership and evidence-based practice in an interdisciplinary team.

Duties & Responsibilities

Follow operating room policies and procedures, assist in care and maintenance of sterile and unsterile equipment and supplies.

Assist in scrub attendant duties: arrange sterile articles, hand/passing serving instruments, dressing materials, sutures, while maintaining sterility and order of instrument tables.

Complete instrument counts with RN prior to, during and after surgery per hospital policy; report discrepancies to Charge Nurse and attending Physician.

Prepare medications (except narcotics) on the sterile field; double‑check doses with RN or MD before passing to MD during the case.

Assist with infusions, preparation of the operating room prior to surgery, and daily stocking of OR supplies.

Initiate cleaning of OR equipment (e.g., laser machines) daily and ensure use of plastic covers.

Assist with instrument clean‑up during routine and after‑hour cases; perform cleaning and packing of instruments.

Perform other assigned duties and participate in special projects as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology from an Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation approved program.

Current certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Surgical Technologist Certification (additional certification beyond minimum).
