Senior Oracle Database Administrator – PTC

Primary Responsibilities Design, maintain, and control a variety of databases in a federally secure datacenter. Primarily manage Oracle databases but also Postgres and MSSQL. Provide 24X7 operational support for databases that run internally developed, revenue-generating applications with stringent SLAs. Work closely with Application Delivery, Infrastructure‑Systems, Networking, and Technical Support teams, and with the Security team for annual compliance audits. The position is hybrid, requiring 50% time in a PTC office.
Essential Functions
Maintain operations of a mixed Oracle database environment – single, RAC, DG, multi‑tenant instances.
Maintain operations of single Postgres and MSSQL databases.
Perform regular maintenance including backups, restores, and log reviews for errors or potential problems.
Review space capacity and perform tasks to manage space usage through archiving or increasing disk space.
Collaborate with operational Oracle DBAs, developers, infrastructure teams, and external customers to resolve application/database problems.
Install, configure, upgrade, and patch databases and related products.
Develop and implement archiving, backup, and recovery strategies.
Complete tasks and produce deliverables within project time schedules.
Responsible for database monitoring and troubleshooting.
Configure backup/recovery, sizing, space management, diagnostics, and use Oracle's Enterprise Manager/Cloud Control.
Design, implement, and periodically test database backup and recovery procedures with IT staff.
Act as a team player with excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
Demonstrate willingness to learn new skills, cross‑train on multiple systems, and provide knowledge transfer.
Participate in on‑call schedule and provide 24X7 support.
Provide off‑hours patching support.
Manage cases in ticketing system.
Requirements / Qualifications
4+ years as an Oracle Database Administrator.
B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent.
Oracle – OCP or equivalent certification.
Experience with Oracle ASM/GRID/RAC – 19c, 26ai (exposure).
Experience managing multiple RDBMS on large systems, preferably high‑availability 24x7 environments in on‑premise data centers and cloud (AWS, Azure, OCI).
Experience installing, patching, upgrading, and maintaining Oracle databases.
Proficient with configuration, backup/recovery, sizing, space management, PL/SQL tuning, diagnostics, and Oracle's Enterprise Manager/Cloud Control.
Experience planning, configuring, and replicating Oracle DataGuard or similar Disaster Recovery solutions.
Experience with DataPump, RMAN, and recovery across scenarios.
Hands‑on experience with advanced Oracle features (partitioning, parallel queries, other EE features).
Prior performance analysis, tuning, debugging, and fixing performance issues.
Experience with SQL Server 2019/2022 for performance, tuning, and backup/restore.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to manage responsibilities as a hybrid employee.
Experience with Linux and Windows environments.
Excellent communication, organizational, and follow‑up skills.
Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
U.S. citizen requirement.
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is between $110,000 – $145,000, encompassing both base salary and on‑target incentive compensation. Eligible employees may participate in PTC's employee share purchase program, equity programs, and receive medical, dental, vision, paid time off, sick leave, tuition reimbursement, 401(k), flexible spending accounts, life insurance, disability coverage, a commuter subsidy for office‑assigned employees, and other benefits subject to eligibility and terms.
