Software Engineer II, SRE

Salary Range $135,000.00 – $175,000.00
What’s the role? Etsy’s Services Infrastructure group is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer II to help build and support reliable large‑scale Kubernetes infrastructure. The SRE team owns several aspects of business‑critical services including search retrieval and ranking, as well as Machine Learning model infrastructure (Kubernetes hosted on Google Cloud). You will play an instrumental role in shaping how we run our systems in the cloud while being part of a dynamic international team.
Team Overview The team improves the developer experience around build, deploy, release, and observability of services and ML models on Google Kubernetes Engine. They work with 20+ Kubernetes clusters with hundreds of nodes, standardizing cluster and application security, crafting SLIs/SLAs, and building a CI/CD platform used by many engineers.
Responsibilities
Administer GKE clusters and automate operations such as provisioning and service observability.
Support partner teams running workloads on the Kubernetes platform.
Guide and collaborate with multi‑functional engineering teams to streamline and improve the adoption of Kubernetes.
Build learning paths, documentation, automation, and self‑service portals for product engineering teams to develop, deploy, and operate services on GKE.
Participate in an on‑call rotation and seek opportunities for reducing toil and technical debt.
Perform additional tasks as required by the team and company.
Qualifications
Proficient in one programming language such as Go, Python, or PHP.
2+ years of experience in systems/infrastructure engineering, SRE, or DevOps roles, preferably in a cloud environment.
Hands‑on experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and related networking, security, and observability components.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and configuration management tools such as Ansible or Chef.
Strong software engineering and coding skills, writing high‑performance production‑quality code.
Debugging experience in Linux‑based operating systems.
Knowledge of MLOps is a plus.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work on code written by others.
