The Veterans Affairs business unit helps transform the VA into a modern digital services organization where Veteran outcomes are at the center of every effort. We partner with the VA to design and deliver seamless user experiences for Veterans, their families and caregivers, and VA employees. By applying better practices in service design, product management, and technology, we enable the VA to increase the use, quality, and reliability of services and decrease the time Veterans spend waiting for outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities

Estimate and complete development tasks including coding, requirements gathering, and analysis with little feedback and guidance from team.

Practice technical and communications skills to improve context knowledge and mentor junior developers.

Assess and diagnose issues with the systems you own, prioritizing problem areas based on alignment with other practice areas.

Participate in on‑call rotations with team as necessary.

Present on and write about your work to both internal and external parties.

Participate in planning sessions, building an understanding of major architectures and design patterns.

Support recruiting efforts by evaluating homework assignments and possibly assisting with interviews.

Exhibit influential skills to drive improvements in team engineering processes and practices.

Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the business, how practices interact, and what customer problems we’re solving.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline is required and 5+ years of engineering experience.

8 years of additional relevant years of experience may be substituted for education.

Experience with Microsoft .Net, ASP.NET MVC/Core, JBoss, AngularJS, WebAPI, Web Forms, J2EE.

Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS, Power BI, MicroStrategy.

Experience with Acquisition Service Bus (ASB), Power Automate.

Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, SSOi, SSOe.

Experience with legacy modernization: FORCE X, EPIC, eCOR, ARM BTT, iFAMS, FMS, VISTA/IFCAP, and others.

Experience with Section 508, WCGAG 2.2, Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs).

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with VA ecosystems highly preferred.

In support of various state and city equal pay transparency laws, Ad Hoc job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we’ve outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. The range of starting pay for this role is $115,000 - $132,000.
