Job Description
This is a hybrid role including in-office and remote working days. Must be resident or relocatable to the Irvine, CA area. The Director, Communications reports to the Executive Director of Communications and Branding. Working closely with the global communications and PR team, the Director will balance communications and media relations efforts, dedicating 50% to Aesthetics R&D communications, to support and advance the global reputation and awareness of the company. The Director will support proactive and reactive media engagement, including executive visibility and industry thought leadership, with additional responsibilities in crisis communications, business development transactions, and global reputation initiatives. The Director will advise and lead communications for critical issues, collaborate with communications and brand PR agencies, and partner with internal and digital communications leaders to maximize visibility of strategies.
Essential Job Functions
Collaborative business partner to develop communications strategies that support business priorities
Sound judgment to provide appropriate communications counsel
Creative and inquisitive to seek out and develop compelling story angles highlighting company and leader strengths
Ability to translate and illustrate complex scientific concepts
Learn the aesthetics market, peer and media landscape, supporting and developing strategic communication programs, partnerships and materials to advance Allergan Aesthetics goals
Media relations strategy development and execution
Excellent judgment and ability to balance short- and long-term needs and anticipate and proactively address potential issues
Creative negotiation skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams and leadership to develop effective and compliant communications strategies
Excellent written and oral communication skills with key message creation and public speaking
Exhibit calm and confidence under pressure in crisis situations to balance near-term and long-term needs with communications strategy
Support cross-functional collaboration across the entire Allergan Aesthetics organization and partner with International Communications counterparts to ensure awareness and support of localized situation and materials
Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Excellent oral and written skills; communicating clearly and concisely
Able to proactively manage deadlines
Working autonomously and exercising excellent judgment
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
Maintaining confidentiality of information
Ability to manage multiple projects with strong project management, time management and organizational skills
Excellent attention to detail
Strong change management and interpersonal skills
Influence and persuasion skills to drive alignment for problem-solving
Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, journalism, related field or equivalent from an accredited college or university, and 10+ years of progressive experience
Experience working with or for a health care company or other regulated industry preferred
Quick learner, collaborative team member
Curious thinker willing to jump in and make immediate contribution
Additional Information
Compensation range: $156,000.00–$296,500.00 (base pay, subject to geographic and performance factors)
Benefits include paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick), medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) to eligible employees
Short-term incentive program eligibility
Long-term incentive program eligibility
