Job Title Executive Director of Trauma Services
Job Summary The Executive Director of Trauma Services leads the overall coordination of Trauma Center strategic planning, regulatory compliance, performance improvement, and trauma registry activities in partnership with the Trauma Medical Director. The role ensures the ongoing American College of Surgeons Level I Trauma Center verification by overseeing the required standards, managing clinical and educational activities, conducting performance improvement initiatives, and representing the program on hospital, community, state, and national committees. The position also directs initiatives in Emergency General Surgery (EGS) and Forensics.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities
Support management of injured and EGS patients and Oversight of Trauma, EGS, and Forensics program operations.
Collaborate with the Trauma Medical Director to lead service line delivery, program assessment, planning, coordination, and evaluation to meet shared performance goals.
Integrate evidence‑based standards of care and national trauma quality indicators into program operations.
Anticipate and respond to program needs, including on‑call duty rotations.
Lead team members, promote employee engagement, ensure optimal customer service, adequate staffing, and productivity.
Prepare annual department operating budgets and monitor compliance with financial goals.
Promote courteous customer service to patients, families, visitors, and external stakeholders.
Assume responsibility for the clinical and financial performance of the department.
Oversee compliance with established policies, legal and regulatory standards, and accrediting body requirements.
Direct people resources related to business and clinical functions, identifying and recommending necessary space, supplies, equipment, and other resources.
Communicate effectively with Executive Leadership, Medical and Hospital Directors, Nursing Staff, and administrative staff to coordinate the Trauma Program.
Perform additional duties as assigned; job description is not exhaustive.
Qualifications
Master of Science in Nursing or other health‑related field from an accredited university.
Five or more years of leadership experience.
Five or more years of experience in a health‑related field.
Two or more years of leadership experience in trauma services at a Level I or II Trauma Center.
Current licensure by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners or proof of reciprocity with another state.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and/or Advanced Trauma Care for Nursing (ATCN) instructor qualification.
Trauma Registered Certified Nurse (TCRN) or equivalent within one year.
NIMS training 100, 200, 700, 800 within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional leadership experience in trauma services at a Level I or II Trauma Center.
TNCC or ATCN Course Director certification.
Trauma Program Manager Course.
Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Training Course.
National Trauma Nurse Certification, TCRN, obtainable after hire.
Current JPS‑recognized CPR certification, maintained throughout employment.
