Position Overview The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive of All Bikes Welcome and is responsible for leading the organization’s strategic vision, operational execution, fundraising, partnerships, and organizational culture. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, the ED serves as the public face of the organization and a key movement leader in working at the intersections of mobility justice, community development, and social equity.

This is a hands‑on leadership role in a small and dynamic nonprofit, ideal for a values‑driven leader who thrives on collaboration, innovation, and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Lead implementation of All Bikes Welcome’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.

Collaborate with the Board to develop and regularly refine a multi‑year strategic plan.

Ensure programs, partnerships, and communications reflect the organization’s commitment to social justice.

Maintain a deep understanding of mobility justice, bike equity movements, and the needs of marginalized communities in cycling.

Develop and execute an annual fundraising strategy with diverse revenue streams including grants, major donors, grassroots campaigns, sponsorships, and events.

Cultivate relationships with funders, corporate partners, and community allies.

Lead grant writing, reporting, and funder stewardship in partnership with staff and/or contractors.

Oversee day‑to‑day operations, including HR, budgeting, program delivery, and compliance.

Hire, manage, and support staff, contractors, and volunteers in alignment with equity‑centered leadership practices.

Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors.

Establish clear internal systems and procedures for transparency, accountability, and sustainability.

Ensure programs are responsive to community needs, have measurable impact, and align with All Bikes Welcome’s mission.

Regularly evaluate and refine programming based on feedback and results.

Explore and launch new initiatives that increase access, equity, and belonging for historically excluded riders.

Serve as a visible and credible spokesperson for All Bikes Welcome at local, regional, and national levels.

Develop and oversee strategic communications, including social media, newsletters, and media engagement.

Build and maintain relationships with peer organizations, advocacy coalitions, and public agencies.

Advocate for equitable infrastructure and policy changes in partnership with community partners.

Maintain strong partnership with the Board of Directors through regular reporting, planning, and shared decision‑making.

Support board recruitment, training, and governance.

Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and mutual respect between staff and board.

Candidate Profile Must‑Have Qualifications

2+ years of nonprofit leadership experience, preferably as an Executive Director, Deputy Director, or similar role.

Proven success in fundraising, particularly with foundations, individual donors, and sponsorships.

Deep understanding of racial equity, mobility justice, and inclusive community‑building.

Strong financial management skills, including budget development and reporting.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coalition‑building abilities.

Experience managing staff or contractors and fostering collaborative team culture.

Preferred Qualifications

Personal lived experience or community ties relevant to the organization’s mission (e.g., Gender Expansive, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled, working‑class background).

Knowledge of and passion for cycling, active transportation, or mobility justice.

Experience scaling small organizations or launching new initiatives.

Experience navigating power dynamics in white‑dominant or male‑dominant spaces.

Bilingual or multilingual fluency.
