Assistant Vice President, Environmental Planning – WSP USA Location: Southern California geography – Los Angeles, San Diego, Irvine, Oakland or San Francisco.

Job Overview WSP is searching for an Assistant Vice President, Environmental Planning role in the Southern California geography. This key strategic role will strengthen and expand our transportation planning practice locally, working with public agencies such as the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Caltrain, cities of San Diego and Los Angeles, Southern California Association of Governments, and many others.

Core Responsibilities

Clients

Grow our market share to fulfill our goal of becoming the preferred, trusted advisor to our clients.

Manage local client coordination and support cross‑selling efforts in coordination with local and regional leadership and pursuit management.

Attend civic and industry events, conferences and forums such as AEP, APA, WTS, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Provide an integrated response to complex challenges by leveraging our full suite of offerings across all end markets.

Utilize our extended reach of technical and subject‑matter experts across regions, districts, offices and the globe to foster new and innovative client delivery.

People & Culture

Foster a collaborative work environment that values inclusion and diversity.

Emphasize employee training and development to create a unique work experience.

Inspire, motivate and promote the best of WSP to our clients and communities to ensure strong employee engagement and morale.

Support programs such as Safety, Sustainability and Ethics & Compliance.

Operational Excellence

Optimize client and employee experience through regular reviews while embracing process improvement.

Focus on innovation and collaboration to maintain and improve quality.

Develop local growth, forecast and business development strategy in collaboration with business line leaders.

Resolve conflict and other issues between staff, clients and projects.

Coordinate with leads and specialists in other business lines and regions to engage in projects and pursuits.

Collaborate with local business leads to drive the business, assess and suggest improvements for project performance, oversee overhead expenditures and focus on key performance indicators.

Expertise

Leverage broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.

Foster development of new and emerging innovations.

Advance strategic direction of the region for sustained growth within the strategic plan.

Encourage and support professional development of local staff.

Track changes in federal environmental law and policy, evaluate implications for projects and staffing.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or related discipline, or equivalent experience in the A/E/C industry with a focus on infrastructure projects.

Experience with professional environmental services as a consultant or client, developing scopes of work, directing work, issuing or responding to RFPs or RFQs.

Demonstrated experience of leadership, personal accountability, persistence, and growth.

Ability to innovate and rethink conventional approaches to client and employee engagement.

Strong business acumen.

Sound decision‑making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities.

Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts in the local area, with ability to lead pursuits and proposals.

Commitment to internal and external client service.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree is preferred.

Essential professional licensure/certification.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $99,100 – $176,550. This range is based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. WSP reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and to offer additional compensation.
