Job Description Boston University seeks a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Budget Analyst to support the University's central Office of Budget & Planning. Reporting directly to the Director, Budget and Planning, this position is responsible for preparing and tracking unit/department budgets, running analyses, and creating reports. The analyst will collect, interpret, and analyze financial data to develop projections, short- and long‑term financial plans, and other reports. Excellent time‑management and the ability to thrive under tight deadlines are essential.

Responsibilities

Compile and review budgets for corporate or organizational units using actual performance, prior budget figures, estimated revenue, expense reports, and other data sources to control funds and ensure proper financial administration.

Prepare financial plans, monitor implementation of financial policies, create complex reports, maintain historical records, analyze trends, and establish forecasts.

Recommend and interpret a wide range of budgetary policies and procedures; maintain and analyze records of actual costs against budgeted funds, and explain variances.

Assist in training entry‑level employees as needed.

Collaborate with stakeholders across the university to conduct scenario and sensitivity planning in support of strategic decision‑making under varying market and operational conditions.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

3–5 years of work experience, preferably in a university environment.

Deep understanding of GAAP and other regulatory standards applicable to higher education.

Experience creating comprehensive board‑level presentations and reporting packages; proficiency in PowerPoint.

Strong analytical skills and ability to run, interpret, and summarize complex data sets using BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Excel – advanced).

Exceptional organizational and time‑management skills to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.

Ability to work collaboratively and influence across functions without direct authority.

Strong multitasking and prioritization skills for routine tasks and ad‑hoc requests.

Preferred Skills

Advanced degree (MBA, CPA) preferred.

Familiarity with SAP.
