Real Estate Tax Associate (Leading Developer/110K-120K Base)

Our team is working with a leading commercial real‑estate developer and property manager to hire a Tax Associate to join their growing team. This role is responsible for managing tax compliance, reporting, and analysis across a range of entities, including partnerships, corporations, REITs, TRS entities, and funds. Key responsibilities include calculating taxable income and tax basis, preparing federal and state tax returns, overseeing REIT compliance, managing estimated tax payments, reviewing depreciation and property activity, and coordinating with third‑party tax preparers. The role also involves researching relevant tax laws, responding to tax authority inquiries, assisting with annual tax provisions, and supporting lease analysis and transfer‑pricing studies for corporate and TRS entities.

Responsibilities
Calculate taxable income and tax basis for all entities (including joint venture partnerships, corporations, REITs, and funds)
Review federal and state tax returns for all entities
Prepare quarterly and annual REIT compliance testing
Calculate extension and quarterly estimated tax payments
Calculate E&P for all corporate entities
Coordinate delivery of finalized trial balances, schedules and calculations to third‑party tax preparers
Review property activity to identify potential REIT compliance issues
Prepare annual 1099‑DIV for corporate distributions
Prepare state withholding exemption vouchers as needed
Research relevant tax laws, regulations and rulings to determine applicability to the portfolio and proper tax treatment, including filing requirements
Respond to inquiries from the IRS, other tax authorities, and joint venture partners
Coordinate distribution of final deliverables to tax authorities, joint venture partners and internal departments for fund investors
Assist in calculation and review of annual tax provision for corporate entities, including tax footnotes and disclosures
Assist in lease analysis and transfer‑pricing studies for TRS entities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent field
4+ years of tax experience in partnerships and REITs
Excellent organizational skills; able to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
Experience with CCH Intelliconnect and BNA Fixed Assets is a plus
CPA preferred
