Macdonald & Company is partnered with a national real estate investment firm to hire a Director of Asset Management focused on retail within its West Coast portfolio. This individual will oversee day‑to‑day performance, leasing strategy, financial analysis, and long‑term planning for a mix of retail and mixed‑use assets.
Role Summary The Director will guide leasing and operations teams, run financial models, manage budgets, oversee capital work, and lead asset‑level strategy from acquisition through hold and exit. The position requires someone who can balance analytical depth with hands‑on portfolio execution.
Key Responsibilities
Direct leasing partners and internal operations teams to drive tenant retention, value creation, and long‑term positioning.
Triage operational issues, propose solutions, and communicate recommendations to ownership.
Maintain Excel and Argus models supporting valuations, budgets, return analysis, and business planning.
Lead annual planning and partner with leasing and operations on market analysis, budgets, and performance targets.
Track financial and operational performance, investigate variances, and drive corrective actions.
Conduct periodic site visits to evaluate conditions, meet onsite teams, and review ongoing initiatives.
Oversee capital projects, tenant improvements, and property‑level initiatives.
Manage reporting requirements for investors, lenders, and internal stakeholders.
Support refinancing or sale processes with data gathering, analysis, and deal materials.
Execute ad‑hoc financial and strategic analysis.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Six or more years of commercial real estate experience with direct retail asset management responsibility.
Strong knowledge of retail leasing, tenant mix strategy, and merchandising concepts.
Experience with mixed‑use retail environments.
Advanced financial modeling skills, including valuation, budgeting, and lease analysis.
Understanding of real‑estate finance, investment principles, and performance metrics.
Proficiency in Argus and Microsoft Office.
Strong communication, leadership, and prioritization abilities.
Capable of managing multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast‑paced environment.
