Canopy's Trees of Life project bridges faith and forestry in East Palo Alto. In partnership with local faith leaders, the project aims to expand urban canopy through community tree stewardship. Duties and responsibilities

Allocate approximately 45–50% of time to faith community engagement, collaboration with partners, and project planning. Allocate 45–50% of time to tree distribution, planting events, and fieldwork. Allocate 5% of time to general program support. Key responsibilities

Ensure 1,150 native and climate‑adapted trees are added to the urban canopy via distribution and planting events. Collaborate with faith partners to co‑create engagement plans and track progress. Engage more than 25 faith congregations to foster individual, group, and organizational participation in stewardship. Coordinate logistics, schedule, educational collateral, and post‑event follow‑ups. Promote a healthy, inclusive urban forest that addresses community needs and supports mental and physical health. Forge connections between environmental nonprofits and faith groups, building a diverse network of stewards. Plan, assess sites, and ensure proper planting and care of distributed trees. Perform fieldwork: site assessment, tree tagging and purchasing, prep, drop‑off, planting, maintenance. Assist team members with fieldwork and event support as necessary. Collaborate with Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager and Education team to coordinate volunteers and logistics. Support special events, outreach, and education related to faith communities. Track work in Salesforce, Tree Plotter, and other tools; manage data and reporting. Collaborate with colleagues in neighboring cities (Palo Alto, Mountain View, Menlo Park, North Fair Oaks) as needed. Preferred qualifications and experience

Lived experience or work with untapped or faith‑based communities. Spanish, Tongan, Samoan, or Mandarin bilingual. Passion for trees, equity, and urban nature, with capacity to memorize tree facts. Knowledge/experience in arboriculture, horticulture, urban forestry, landscape management or design. Experience doing outdoor fieldwork with trees/plants. Experience in community organizing and volunteer engagement. Proficiency with online databases (Salesforce, GIS) and tree mapping software like TreePlotter. Expertise in Google Suite. Several years of driving experience; trailer driving a plus. ISA Certified Arborist a plus; candidate should study for exam during employment. Requirements

Valid California driver’s license. Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently. Ability to bend, squat, stoop, stand for long periods. Ability to sit and type frequently. Schedule, compensation, and benefits

Temporary, full‑time position, 40 hours per week through December 31 2027. Work week typically Tuesday‑Saturday, with occasional early mornings, evenings, Sundays as needed to engage community. Annual salary: $60,000. Health benefits: medical, dental, vision insurance. Retirement: 401(k) with future matching. Sick leave: 12 days (96 hours) per year, maximum accrue 12 days. Vacation: 12 days (96 hours) per year, max 18 days after 2 years. Paid holidays. To apply
