Job Description:
L3Harris is looking for a lead flight test engineer to support our portfolio of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). You will be responsible for planning, coordinating and leading test events for various unmanned aircraft systems. You will need to work closely with the program team and the customer to ensure objectives are met. This position requires a self‑starter with leadership qualities and will operate under general oversight. Requires in‑depth knowledge of UAS. CONUS and/or OCONUS travel required.
Essential Functions
Work in manufacturing, lab and flight test (field) environments
Coordination with program leadership and engineering disciplines to establish customer‑driven flight test objectives
Generate comprehensive test briefings, plans, quick looks and reports for stakeholders
Communicate with various customers and flight test ranges to coordinate test events
Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in a field environment to achieve test objectives
Travel within CONUS and/or OCONUS up to 25% of the time
Functionally manage a team of flight test engineers, including hiring, assignments and performance reviews
Perform proposal work, including generating and reviewing Basis of Estimate (BOE) bids
Ability to lift 40 lb unassisted or 80 lb as part of a two‑person team
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior integration/systems experience, or Graduate Degree and minimum 2 years of prior related experience. If no degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience
Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance
4+ years’ experience and working knowledge of Unmanned Aerial Systems
3+ years’ experience with FAA and ICAO regulations pertaining to UAS and VFR/IFR flight planning
3+ years’ experience interfacing with test and training ranges, coordinating support equipment and service requests for test events
Preferred Additional Skills
Excellent organizational skills
Strong oral presentation skills
Experience using NGA mapping products, Google Earth Pro, Foreflight, and commercial UAS mission‑planning software (ArduPilot, Piccolo)
Experience coordinating customer demonstration and test events
FAA Pilot License (Private or above)
Cost Account Management (CAM) experience
Salary & Benefits In compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $87,000 – $161,000. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company‑paid holidays. Specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
