Senior Structural Engineer
in buildings. This position is technical in nature with project execution and mentoring of less experienced engineers expected.
Your work environment at EXP
In this role, you will be a key part of the
Building Structures
focused team and report to the discipline Director(s). The location is flexible; preferred locations include Chicago, St. Louis, Columbus, Atlanta, Dallas, and Bedford. Additional locations may be discussed with qualified candidates.
The
Building Structures
team executes projects throughout the United States and several U.S. Territories. Opportunities for technical support of non‑U.S. based teams within EXP are also expected.
Successful candidates will work independently and as part of a diverse team of in‑house professionals and/or subconsultants nationwide. You will provide technical expertise and mentor less experienced team members.
The engagement includes a variety of project types. Major sectors include mission‑critical facilities, aviation, and general building design.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
Assist less experienced staff with design, drawing development, and construction administration.
Participate in quality assurance initiatives and quality control procedures.
Self‑perform and/or assist others in work from schematic design through construction administration.
Produce calculations, sketches, drawings, specifications, and multi‑discipline coordination regularly.
Conduct observations and evaluate existing conditions in the field and via historical drawings.
Work on multiple concurrent projects requiring coordination across EXP offices and outside consultants.
Occasional short‑term travel to project sites, usually a night or two at a time.
What Your Experience Looks Like
Master’s degree in Structural Engineering strongly preferred; a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structures emphasis is the minimum requirement.
12+ years of experience focusing on building design.
Proficiency in structural analysis software such as RAM, RISA, and ETABS.
Adequate Revit skills, including navigation, modeling, and sheet creation.
Licensure as a Structural Engineer via structural‑specific examination (Structural I/II, Structural Gravity/Lateral) required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write persuasively and convey technical subject matter clearly to a less technical audience.
The base pay range for this role is $120,000 to $140,000. Actual compensation packages depend on skill set, experience, certifications, and work location.
