Duties and Responsibilities
Teach courses in the assigned subject area
Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress
Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes
Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations
Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area
Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week). Classes may be offered online, evenings and/or weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Functionally native fluency in ASL (ASL proficiency interview level 4 or 5)
Training/education in ASL teaching methodology (e.g. American Sign Instructors Guidance Network, or Signing Naturally Teachers Training)
One of the following degree options:
Master's in ASL, ASL studies, literature, or linguistics
Master's in Linguistics
Master's in Teaching ASL
Master's in Deaf Studies
Master's in Signed Communication
Master's in Deaf Education
Master's in Education
Master's in ESL
Master's in Related field (e.g., Special Education, Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Instruction, or Interpreting)
Or Bachelor’s degree options:
Bachelor's in ASL, ASL studies, literature, or linguistics AND 3 years of related work experience and written English communication
Bachelor's in Linguistics AND 3 years of related work experience and written English communication
Bachelor's in Teaching ASL AND 3 years of related work experience and written English communication
Bachelor's in Deaf Studies AND 3 years of related work experience and written English communication
Bachelor's in Signed Communication AND 3 years of related work experience and written English communication

Familiarity with competency- and outcomes-based instruction
Experience mentoring undergraduate research projects in discipline
