Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage
is seeking a Store Manager to lead the successful operation and profitability of a store. The role includes training, directing, and monitoring all department staff, ensuring high standards of customer service, and maintaining compliance with company and regulatory policies.
Salary : USD $79,000.00 per year.
Responsibilities
Greet and service customers per company standards of World Class customer service and train staff to do the same.
Lead staff professionally, motivating high performance and maintaining respect and integrity in daily interactions.
Handle customer complaints appropriately and per company policy.
Ensure store is inviting and shoppable, with products in-stock and special orders processed efficiently.
Answer the phone per company standards and be on the sales floor assisting customers and staff at least 75% of the time.
Train staff on customer service and hold them accountable.
Maintain staff compliance with state and/or county food safety certifications and registration.
Drive store and department sales goals, including Sales per Labor Hour Ratio, Average Ticket, Customer Count, Cost of Goods Sold for Produce, and EBITDA.
Order products from the appropriate vendors to secure discounts and maintain margins.
Rotate and stock perishables and manage markdowns per company standards.
Collaborate with department managers to staff tasks, cross-train employees, and share products knowledge.
Conduct performance evaluations, grant wage increases per company standards, and participate in hiring processes.
Address performance and disciplinary issues with Human Resources, maintaining clear communication through monthly staff meetings and announcements.
Ensure safety guidelines are followed and manage business disruptions (e.g., loiterers, solicitation, emergency weather).
Lead new store management training and develop staff for future positions.
Maintain store paperwork and reports in a timely manner (e.g., Monthly Manager’s Report, DSR, Manager’s Cash).
Respond to department manager calls and cover lunches/snacks as needed.
Work required hours include evenings and weekends to ensure proper coverage; the schedule often exceeds 45 hours per week.
Support decisions from home office, following communications and adapting to changing work demands.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
1–2 years of management experience in grocery or related retail; natural foods industry experience a plus.
Ability to manage changing priorities and pass applicable food safety training and testing.
Must obtain forklift certification and keep it current.
Sense of urgency and excellent customer service skills.
Highly organized with great attention to detail; ability to follow direction and take initiative.
Cashier trained and proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Must be able to obtain and maintain food safety certifications per state/county law.
Ineligible candidates: those without the required certifications or forklift training.

Must frequently work with sharp tools, dust, fumes, and congested worksite.
