About The Department The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.
Job Summary The Assistant Director will be responsible for supervision of research technologists, trainees (graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, medical fellows, medical residents, undergraduate students, etc.) within the Drazer group.
Responsibilities
Oversight of day-to-day research activities within the Drazer group.
Organization of project-based meetings and coordination of multiple research programs within the Drazer group.
Performs administrative duties: supply inventory, procurement, organization, biological sample storage, shipping, contracts, submission of expenses and post-award management, webinars.
Coordination of research efforts with Core Facilities at UChicago.
Generation of patient-derived cell isogenic lines via CRISPR.
Tissue culture, cloning, Western Blot analysis.
Maintenance of cell cultures, including adherent and suspension cells, transfections, and CRISPR-edited cell cultures.
Mouse animal care and routine behavior testing.
Breeding and organization of mouse strains in collaboration with group members and the UChicago animal facility.
Develops new tests and evaluates new technology for implementation in diagnostic testing.
Prepares quality and safety control measures for the laboratory, such as checks of equipment, temperature control, and documentation of quality improvement projects. Under a limited degree of supervision, provides support to clinical research studies.
Performs other related work as needed.
Education Minimum: college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience Minimum: 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
