Responsibilities The Associate Director enhances the student experience beyond the classroom through support for events, extracurricular programs, and leadership development. Responsibilities include supporting the Executive Director in designing and implementing key programming such as orientation, immersion experiences, commencement, and events that integrate leadership, career advancement, and community engagement for both in‑person and online students. The role also involves advising student leaders, maintaining clear communication across stakeholder groups, implementing strategic initiatives, and delivering exceptional student services to ensure academic and co‑curricular success.

Student Life & Leadership Programming

Design, organize, and implement programming for part‑time MBA students focused on leadership, career advancement, extracurricular involvement, and community building.

Promote opportunities for both in‑person and remote student engagement.

Work with part‑time team and student leaders to review feedback and recommend improvements to events, or recommend new event offerings, to meet financial goals, policy expectations, and maintain student satisfaction.

Signature Events & Immersion Experiences

Responsible for a portfolio of events, shared with a peer Associate Director, to provide programming recommendations, budget management, and communication strategy for MBA student immersion events. Includes orientation, weekend immersion courses, optional signature events, and celebratory events such as commencement.

Event lead for Program Office and liaison to the Haas Events & Operations team to partner on logistic needs such as room scheduling, hotel accommodations, catering, and other vendor relations needed for successful event management.

Manage non‑academic requests from students, faculty, and staff during events and, as needed, loop in other teams (events, academics, etc.) to determine support needed.

Student Services, Communication, & Campus Engagement

Serve as the primary contact for part‑time MBA students, providing support on student life, leadership, and campus resources.

Apply professional student services principles to assist students, faculty, and leadership to ensure student success.

Maintain clear and consistent communication with students, faculty, staff, and campus offices to provide updates on program developments, events, schedules, and key information.

Deliver written, recorded, and verbal communications with precision, attention to detail, and exceptional writing skills.

Work with leadership to implement initiatives that enhance the academic and student experience both inside and outside the classroom.

Advising Student Leaders

Serve as the designated advisor to a portfolio of student groups, shared with a peer Associate Director, which could include groups such as the Evening & Weekend MBA Student Association, VP committees (40‑60 each year), Academic and Social Cohort Representatives, National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), or other affinity groups and clubs.

Provide individual and group advising to students when they seek support for extra‑curricular opportunities.

Advise on UC policies, Haas policies, navigating resources, and provide support for how to be a Haas leader.

Professional Learning and Growth

Actively contributes to a team environment that fosters and promotes a culture of belonging for all, within the unit and at Haas. Exemplifies Haas' four Defining Leadership Principles: (1) Question the status quo; (2) Confidence without attitude; (3) Students always; and (4) Beyond yourself.

Completes required training on time and engages in opportunities for learning pertinent to the position or at the suggestion of the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

Knowledge of and/or can quickly learn University‑specific computer application programs.

Knowledge of and/or can quickly learn University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate cross‑cultural communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaborate with individuals and groups from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and outstanding project management skills.

Can develop original ideas and use skills in judgment and decision‑making to problem solve and improve performance.

Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members.

Education / Training

Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, business, or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in education, counseling, business, or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. The range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $80,000.00 - $85,700.00.

This is an exempt monthly‑paid position.
