About the Role
As a Department Manager, you’ll be the leader supporting and encouraging your whole team. By bringing everyone together, you’ll create an inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and an entrepreneurial spirit, helping you, your team, and H&M succeed. You will ensure an excellent operational and visual experience for your store, customers, and colleagues. You’ll be aware of your store’s strengths, opportunities, and competitors, analyze and follow up on sales, and create plans to optimize results and profits.
Day in the Life Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the responsibilities listed below.
Responsibilities Customer Sales & Profit
Responsible for the total OMNI customer experience in your store, ensuring visual and commercial curation according to global guidelines.
Represent yourself and the H&M brand positively during customer interactions.
Identify commercial opportunities and act on them.
Establish and analyze sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimize results.
Ensure customer service is provided in all areas of the store, and that your team actively promotes and sells products to customers.
Follow up that your team promotes our Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in‑store sustainability initiatives.
Manage your department in a cost‑efficient way.
Ensure correct routines in fitting room and checkout, including transaction, returns and exchanges.
Ensure all administrative routines for both people and operations are handled correctly.
Fashion & Trend Awareness
Keep up‑to‑date with fashion scene, trends, styles, brands, products, competitors and relevant influencers.
Ensure your team provides product and fashion knowledge as well as other relevant information during customer interactions.
Team & Development
Recruit, onboard, manage, upskill and develop your team in‑store.
Complete performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs.
Retain and share your knowledge and skills with your team.
Collaborate, plan and work with the in‑store Visual Merchandiser team.
Give and receive feedback with colleagues to learn, develop and support each other.
Responsible for the team’s planning and scheduling.
Communicate regularly with store colleagues to inform, motivate and inspire – daily, weekly meetings, etc.
Ensure all procedures, routines, and legal requirements in all areas of the store are followed.
Participate in relevant onboarding and training processes for your role and future development.
Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution
Maintain a clean and tidy sales floor and back‑of‑house including stockroom areas.
Ensure high fashion quality, visual and commercial product presentation, with good garment care.
Secure good stock levels and provide input on allocation to the Area team.
Ensure the full garment cycle – from delivery to garment presentation – and fitting room routines follow internal standards and use provided tools and technology.
Maintain best practice for any in‑store OMNI Services and in‑store tech services/tools.
Maintain a strong balance and price sign consistency throughout the store.
Keep back‑of‑house areas of the store up‑to‑date and tidy.
Responsible for opening and closing of the store daily.
Qualifications
Strong leader who enjoys taking responsibility for others.
Ambitious, effective communicator, supportive, analytical solution finder, capable of working with numbers and managing statistics.
Achievement‑oriented, motivated by performance and competition, truly customer‑centric.
