About the Role
As a Department Manager, you’ll be the leader supporting and encouraging your whole team. By bringing everyone together, you’ll create an inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and entrepreneurial spirit, helping you, your team, and H&M succeed. You’ll ensure an excellent operational and visual experience in your store, for customers and colleagues, while being aware of your store’s strengths, opportunities, and competitors. Analyze and follow up on sales, and create plans to optimize results and profits.
A Day in the Life Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities.
Customer Sales & Profit
Responsible for the total OMNI customer experience in your store, ensuring visual and commercial curation according to global guidelines.
Represent the H&M brand positively during customer interactions.
Identify commercial opportunities and act on them.
Establish and analyse sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimise results.
Ensure customer service is provided throughout the store and your team can actively promote and sell products.
Promote the Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in‑store sustainability initiatives.
Manage the department cost‑efficiently.
Maintain correct routines in fitting room and checkout, including transactions, returns and exchanges.
Handle all administrative routines for people and operations correctly.
Fashion & Trend Awareness
Keep up‑to‑date with fashion trends, brands, products, competitors and relevant influencers.
Ensure your team provides product and fashion knowledge during customer interactions.
Team & Development
Recruit, onboard, manage performance, up‑skill and develop your team in‑store.
Complete performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs.
Share knowledge and skills with your team.
Collaborate, plan and teamwork with the in‑store Visual Merchandiser team.
Give and receive feedback with colleagues to develop and support each other.
Plan and schedule the team.
Communicate regularly to store colleagues to inform, motivate and inspire—daily or weekly meetings.
Ensure all procedures, routines and legal requirements in all store areas are followed.
Participate in onboarding and training processes relevant for your role and future development.
Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution
Secure a clean and tidy sales floor and back of house, including stockrooms.
Ensure high‑fashion quality visual and commercial product presentation with good garment care.
Secure good stock levels and provide input on allocation to the Area team.
Maintain the full garment cycle—delivery to presentation—and fitting room routines per internal standards.
Follow best practice for in‑store OMNI services and in‑store tech services/tools.
Maintain price signs in store to ensure a strong and consistent price perception.
Maintain back‑of‑house areas for all colleagues (key information, health & safety, tidiness).
Responsible for opening and closing the store daily.
Qualifications
Strong leader who enjoys taking responsibility for others.
Ambitious, effective communicator, supportive, analytical, capable of working with numbers and managing statistics.
Achievement‑oriented, motivated by performance and competition, truly customer‑centric.
