Responsibilities

Lead a distributed team of software engineers focused on delivering and maintaining all Linux kernels for the Ubuntu Linux distribution.

Take ownership of one or more technical areas such as kernel integration with silicon or cloud partners, expanding supported execution environments, ensuring quality control standards, mitigating security threats, and automating build, test and delivery.

Collaborate with other Canonical teams, the open‑source community and commercial partners to drive kernel development and support.

Help your team grow as engineers, set technical direction, and ensure a positive, productive work environment.

Qualifications

Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang or similar languages desirable.

Substantial experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts – Linux, but not essential.

Proven experience managing or leading a team of software engineers.

Strong coordination skills across diverse technical teams and ability to achieve common goals.

Familiarity with version control, ideally Git.

Experience with Ubuntu/Debian software packaging, Snap experience highly regarded.

Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.

Willingness to travel internationally up to two weeks twice a year.

Nice‑to‑have: kernel patching/debugging, device driver knowledge, CI/CD automation initiatives, public open‑source involvement.
