Civil Inspector

Job Description Hill International is seeking a Civil Inspector to oversee construction activities ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
Inspect each stage of construction up to completion.
Interpret plans, specifications, and codes and verify contract work complies with applicable governing codes and regulations.
Monitor construction sites for safety violations.
Prepare Non-Conformance Reports when work is not performed to approved standards.
Maintain daily activity logs and reports with photographs, in a manner agreed prior to the work.
Review or prepare interim progress reports for contractor payments.
Monitor contractor-testing activities.
Prepare reports on labor, material, and equipment on site.
Determine construction conforms to plans and specifications.
Conduct quality surveillance of specific quality-related activities as necessary.
Assist in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with Caltrans safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Provide Construction Safety and Security field services, including Site Safety and Security Reviews for Construction Equipment, Personnel, Work Procedures, and Traffic Control.
Coordinate preparation of inspection survey reports, cost estimates and maintenance records.
Ensure timely submittals of reports and records.
Arrange, coordinate and oversee technical inspections such as electrical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete, asphalt mixes, and reinforcing steel for conformance to specification requirements.
Coordinate test laboratory activities with onsite Quality Management and Contractor’s Quality Control teams.
Qualifications
5+ years of project experience in highway/roadway/utility/transit/bridge and/or rail construction.
Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
Ability to obtain Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-hour training certification.
Strong understanding of construction methods, standards, equipment, quality and safety per State and Federal requirements.
Strong computing skills including competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint).
Experience using mobile devices, such as iPads, for reporting preferred.
Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
Ability to independently identify potential problems and propose solutions.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Valid California Class C driver’s license.
Position is on-site in Santa Clara County.
Compensation & Benefits The hourly range for this position is $65.00–$75.00.
