Amazon Web Services (AWS) invites applications for the Data Center Chief Engineer position in our DCC Communities team.
Description As a chief engineer, you will lead operations for critical infrastructure systems in data centers, ensuring 99.999% uptime. Your role involves advance troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, training, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.
Key Job Responsibilities
Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities‑related issues, overseeing routine and emergency services for systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and building monitoring.
Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of equipment failures within internal Service Level Agreements.
Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and collaborate with the Facility Manager to shape team culture.
Create and deploy standard practices for technicians, chief engineers, and vendor support teams.
Assist in the build‑out of new facilities and projects to improve current facility efficiency.
Work outside normal business hours for routine maintenance and out‑of‑hours emergency calls.
Communicate complex technical information to non‑technical audiences.
Coordinate projects with IT managers to manage capacity, optimize safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Ensure adherence to all safety procedures by vendors and Amazon staff.
Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on critical facility operations and maintenance.
Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other basic administrative tools for daily tasks.
Physical Requirements
Willingness and demonstrated ability to work in physical conditions with reasonable accommodations.
Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds independently; participate in group lifts of 40+ pounds.
Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.
Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull objects into position.
Work in an environment requiring provided ear protection.

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.
3+ years of data center or mission‑critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military, public safety).
Technical training or degree in a relevant field (electrical, mechanical, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of data center engineering experience.
Associate's degree or above, or Bachelor's degree.
Experience leading a team.

Base pay for this position ranges from $83,100 to $185,000 per year, depending on geographic market and qualifications. Additional compensation may include equity, sign‑on payments, and benefits.
