Job Description Summary Staff Systems Engineer is responsible for using broad technical expertise, leadership skills, and development process knowledge to lead product development. They will be expert at system level implementation and maintain design controls through voice of customer and stakeholder needs into system and product requirements, identify potential hazards and assess requirements to ensure product compliance. They will drive product design architecture definition, identify technical risks and mitigation pathways, and aid cross‑functional engineering teams in developing design and process specifications for new system and software products that affect many systems—or for the enhancement of multiple systems. The Staff Systems Engineer represents the R&D function on project core teams, acts as a leader of technical excellence, and strives for continuous improvement within the Systems Engineering function. They help identify and prioritize tasks, coach junior resources, and ensure critical project milestones and systems integration activities are met.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in product and software design controls
Demonstrate knowledge of advanced system‑level technology
Lead system/product‑level feasibility and risk assessments
Translate voice of customer and stakeholder needs into system and product requirements
Facilitate cross‑functional knowledge and experiences to promote the understanding and resolution of in‑market and product development issues
Coordinate system‑level product development and its integration
Coach junior associates
Serve as a key resource to examine system behavior issues and bring to resolution for existing products
Identify potential hazards and associated control measures
Identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement efforts
Implement best‑in‑class R&D tools, processes & standards within the development platform
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering (post‑graduate degree desired)
7–10 years of related work experience (combination of work experience and advanced degrees)
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to lead multi‑discipline engineering teams
Strong technical background in Systems Engineering – Requirements Management, Hazards Analysis, System Architectural Development, Functional Modeling, Systems Integration, Statistical Test Design, Verification and Validation, Reliability Engineering, and Failure Modes Effects Analysis
Excellent interdepartmental and cross‑functional communication skills; strong writing skills
Experience with medical device development (plus)
Experience coaching junior associates (plus)
Experience making architectural decisions in products or platforms (plus)
Experience working in an agile environment (plus)
Workplace We prioritize on‑site collaboration, requiring a minimum of 4 days of in‑office presence per week for most roles to maintain culture and smooth operations. Remote or field‑based positions will have different workplace arrangements indicated in the posting. Salary Range Information $124,700.00 – $205,800.00 USD Annual
