Bread of Life Mission is a non-denominational Christian social services organization that provides critical goods and services to the homeless, poor, and needy of Washington State. The organization is committed to equal opportunity employment.
Job Summary The Director of Development (DD) is a member of the executive team and is responsible for overall fundraising strategy and execution to support the mission, vision, and goals of Bread of Life Mission (BOLM). The DD works closely with the CEO to set fundraising goals, manage a growing team, oversee a $1.5M development budget, and grow major donor, grant, and planned giving programs.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute fundraising strategy, including planned giving, grants, mid- and major donor programs, direct mail, foundations, social media, events, volunteers, and monthly giving.
Lead a team of 3 development professionals, coordinating weekly objectives, monthly reviews, and staff development.
Manage the departmental budget and fiscal operations; work with contracted vendors.
Secure and nurture 50–75 major donor relationships, conducting 2 meetings per week.
Oversee the grant program, ensuring compliance and growth.
Plan and execute large and small annual fundraising events to meet revenue targets.
Analyze and report results of fundraising initiatives to the CEO and board committees.
Use data to demonstrate BOLM’s impact and encourage donor engagement.
Create and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to enhance brand identity and donor support.
Coordinate outreach with local churches and manage public communications with the CEO.
Lead participation in the $30M capital campaign and collaborate with the CEO on private and foundation funding.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Successful track record of cultivating and securing major gifts.
Experience with mid-level and major donor acquisition and grant programs.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel), donor database software, and social media.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strategic thinker with strong leadership and collaborative skills.
Self‑starter who sets and achieves activity- and results-driven goals.
Valid Washington state driver’s license; willing to travel within the greater Seattle area.
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or CFRE preferred.
7+ years in fundraising, marketing, or related field; 5+ years in leadership roles.
Comprehensive knowledge of fundraising, planned giving techniques, and tax implications.
