Senior Engineer II – Substation Design (Full‑Time Permanent)
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Salary Range:
$110k-$120k/annum + benefits (negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors)
Job Description:
Qualified candidates will have at least 10 years of hands‑on substation design experience, preferably in a utility environment (but consultants will also be considered).
Highly preferred that they have a PE license. Please include the license number and the state in which it was obtained with your submittal.
Basic Purpose:
Provide comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities and ensure the facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations.
Lead functional teams and provide technical oversight in performing all phases of projects.
Assist with internal training for engineers and technicians.
Work closely with managers and principal engineers on higher‑level projects, and recommend and implement changes that benefit the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs with no supervision and guidance. Provide technical management of multiple substation projects and prioritization of work, working collaboratively with outside consulting firms and internal stakeholders. (25%)
Ensure quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections. (25%)
Provide coordination and communication with other departments in completing procurement tasks on projects with no supervision or guidance. (15%)
Assist and guide other departments in the solution of non‑standard substation design problems. (15%)
Provide accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures, such that cash flow requirements are identified. (10%)
Provide input for the development of detailed project schedules and update the project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. (10%)
Ensure all compliance aspects of the position are known and followed; understand and comply with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to the position and company.
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and 8 years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license, must have 10+ years as a practicing engineer.
Demonstrated Knowledge:
Substation/control engineering principles and knowledge of other phases of engineering.
Areas of cost control, budgets, finance, and accounting, with technical experience in cost analysis.
Skills:
Analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with company personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies.
Multi‑tasking, leadership, research, analysis, project management, problem‑solving and decision‑making.
