Job Summary We are looking for a Corporate Legal Counsel to join our growing team in Los Angeles, CA. This hands‑on role will involve providing legal guidance on a variety of matters, including contract drafting and negotiation, litigation management, compliance, and strategic legal support for the company’s business initiatives.
What You’ll Do
Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of a broad range of agreements, including distribution contracts, manufacturing and packaging agreements, marketing, influencer, and sponsorship contracts service, logistics, warehousing, and procurement agreements, financing, real estate leases, and partnership contracts within the beauty and retail sectors.
Oversee and manage litigation and dispute matters, collaborating with external counsel as needed. This includes claims related to intellectual property, real estate, employment, consumer complaints, and product liability issues.
Advise on employment laws, including workplace safety, wage & hour laws, and employee benefits, ensuring compliance in all HR‑related matters. Provide guidance on state and federal competition laws, consumer protection laws, and marketing practices, particularly in the beauty retail industry.
Advise on U.S. FDA cosmetic regulations, including ingredient restrictions / safety requirements, labeling and packaging compliance, claims substantiation, guide compliance with California‑specific regulations such as CA Safe Cosmetics Program, Proposition 65, SB 54 (Plastic Pollution Prevention & Packaging and Producer Responsibility Act) and advise marketing teams on regulatory considerations for campaigns and promotional activities.
Support corporate governance matters for the entity including preparing Board of Directors resolutions and consent forms and maintaining corporate records.
Provide day‑to‑day legal guidance to the CEO, executive leadership, and other departments (HR, Marketing, Procurement, etc.) to proactively mitigate legal risks while aligning legal strategy with the company’s growth objectives.
Support strategic projects and business deals, providing legal analysis, risk assessment, and practical, solution‑oriented advice to protect company interests and facilitate business growth.
Oversee the entire contract lifecycle management process and review contracts to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements while mitigating commercial risks.
Provide legal advice on a range of matters as they arise, including new business initiatives, product launches, and retail operations.
As a key legal partner within the business, support and provide counsel on other legal matters as the business needs evolve.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or foreign equivalent, with active membership in the California State Bar.
Minimum of 7+ years of combined in‑house and/or law firm experience, with a strong focus on retail, beauty, consumer products, and/or food and beverage law. Direct experience working within the beauty retail sector is preferred.
Proven experience with retail‑related legal issues including product safety, advertising and marketing compliance, privacy law (especially CCPA), intellectual property protection, real estate, employment, and procurement.
Notary experience is a plus.
Strong analytical skills and ability to exercise sound judgment.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, business‑friendly advice.
Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including executives, business leaders, HQ Legal, and external partners.
Ability to think strategically, balancing legal risk with business objectives and providing practical, solution‑oriented legal advice.
Proven ability to juggle multiple projects and legal issues simultaneously, while meeting deadlines and maintaining high attention to detail.
