Torch Technologies is seeking a motivated Sr. Software Design Engineer to develop and maintain software solutions for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the Systems Engineering Program (SEP). The ideal candidate will work with MDA's Modular Analysis and Reporting Suite (MARS) and MARS Next Generation tools to deliver high‑quality, operationally feasible solutions. This role involves analyzing requirements, designing and coding solutions, and documenting software processes, while supporting team members through guidance and coaching.
Responsibilities
Develop software solutions for MDA/SEP using MARS and MARS Next Generation
Evaluate operational feasibility by analyzing problems, defining requirements, developing solutions, and assessing proposed approaches
Document and demonstrate solutions using flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear, maintainable code
Prepare and implement solutions by determining system specifications, standards, and programming needs
Update knowledge of current development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment
Collect, analyze, and summarize development and service issues to provide actionable information
Support organizational objectives by completing engineering tasks as required
Mentor and support other software engineers by providing advice, coaching, and educational opportunities
Required Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship
Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
12+ years of related experience.
Active TS/SCI
Experience with MDA's Modular Analysis and Reporting Suite (MARS) and MARS Next Generation
Strong software development skills, including coding, debugging, and documentation
Ability to analyze requirements and determine operational feasibility of solutions
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in coaching or mentoring junior software engineers
Familiarity with professional development practices, software engineering standards, and documentation techniques
Participation in professional organizations or ongoing technical education
Determines operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flow, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.
Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
Updates job knowledge by studying state‑of‑the‑art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment, and by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and issues.
Accomplishes engineering and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
