LSU Health Sciences Center, Human Development Center seeks to hire a Health & Safety
Specialist to manage overall health and safety activities for an Early Head Start program. In
addition, the Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for monitoring, overseeing and assuring
confidentiality of health records, monitoring and analyzing service data in the management
information system, ensuring that health services are provided, providing training and
consultation to staff and families, and ensuring overall compliance with Head Start Health &
Safety standards.
The person in this position also will be responsible for compliance with federal and state statutes
and rules pertaining to Health within the context of Early Head Start programs, including but not
limited to: Department of Education Licensing regulations, Department of Health regulations for
daycare, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. In addition, the incumbent shall be
responsible for collaborating with professionals to implement Individualized Health Plans, and
supporting childcare partners in implementation of the health plans.
Bachelor’s degree in public health, Pediatrics Nursing, Counseling, or related field.
Additionally, applicants must have at least 2 years of experience in a social service agency that
supports families. Successful applicants will possess knowledge of family-centered practices,
supporting the physical and social emotional development of young children including those
with complex health needs, and will demonstrate apptitudes for participation in team
development, implementation and evaluation of professional development activities. Master’s
degree preferred.
