Position Overview The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the University of Utah is seeking an ABTS board‑certified cardiac surgeon to serve as the Head of the Adult Cardiac Surgery Section. Eligible applicants must hold the rank of Associate or Full Professor and be on either a tenure or clinical track within the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. The successful candidate will work across the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, the Salt Lake Veterans Administration Health Care System, and the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Responsibilities

Perform the entire spectrum of adult cardiac surgery, including complex and high‑volume procedures.

Serve as an attending surgeon at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, the Salt Lake Veterans Administration Health Care System, and the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Teach and mentor both integrated and traditional thoracic surgery trainees, fostering their academic and clinical development.

Support the academic mission of the Division through clinical service, research, and educational activities.

Qualifications

ABTS board‑certified surgeon in thoracic or cardiovascular surgery (or eligible for certification).

Tenure‑track or clinical‑track faculty at the rank of Associate or Full Professor within the Eccles School of Medicine.

Demonstrated experience with a broad range of adult cardiac procedures.

Strong commitment to teaching, mentorship, and collaborative research.

Excellent communication and leadership skills.
