Summary The Medical Technician reports to the laboratory manager, performs and interprets routine diagnostic assays on blood and body fluids; performs all duties related to the preparation, identification, and testing of specimens and performs all related reporting and documentation tasks.

The technologist ensures regulatory compliance, staff training, quality control, instrument verification, and result integrity across all testing sites.

Additional tasks can be assigned at the discretion of the Supervisor, Manager, and Director.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science, B.S. degree in a Clinical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory.

Associate’s degree in Medical Technology or science with two years experience in clinical laboratory.

Certified or eligible for certification by a Category I Agency – ASCP, NCA, AMT, HHS/HEWS.

Blood Bank experience preferred

Scheduling Requirements Evening Shift, Saturday and Sunday

Essential Functions

Confirms abnormal results and institutes correct follow‑up procedures; develops solutions to problems concerning the generation of laboratory data, correlates laboratory results with regard to previous results and diagnosis.

Evaluates new techniques, instruments, and procedures as required.

Follows proper procedures for reporting and documenting laboratory test results and reports.

Institutes proper measures to maintain accuracy and precision.

Documents corrective actions and promptly notifies supervisor when quality control results exceed tolerance limits.

Integrates and relates data generated by the various laboratory sections and makes judgments regarding possible discrepancies.

Performs all types of analytical testing on specimens with accuracy, precision, and efficiency under the direction of a pathologist.

Performs and documents quality control according to established protocols.

Makes judgments concerning the results of quality control procedures.

Performs procedures in two or more functional sections of the medical laboratory.

Recognizes, evaluates, and solves specimen problems and properly follows procedures for rejection of specimens.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
