Design Release Engineer - Safety Restraint Systems - Side Airbags

The Restraint Design Release Engineer (DRE) – Side Airbags is responsible for the design, development, and release of side airbags to support Stellantis vehicle programs. The DRE will work with the Stellantis engineering organizations and supply base to package and develop the side airbag system and interface with teams such as purchasing, product design office, manufacturing and supply base groups to achieve program objectives. The DRE is responsible for the review of testing, parts, data and best practices to meet program requirements, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), ECE and other global certifications and will be responsible to assure that all program milestones, deliverables and targets are met for side airbags including cost, weight and investment.
The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Reviewing design practices to meet program requirements
Conducting commodity benchmarking as required
Managing program specific documentation (e.g., DVPR, DFMEA)
Managing supplier design and open issues reviews
Writing change notices
Reviewing supplier component and system testing, test parts, and test results
Managing and completing compliance testing and reports
Support pre-production, production launch, and serial life builds
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited (or equivalent) University
Minimum of 5 years of automotive engineering experience
Minimum of 1 year of engineering experience with side airbag design and development
Highly motivated and driven to achieve goals
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Good communication, problem solving, computer and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
Vehicle level restraint system experience
FMVSS or Homologation testing and certification experience
Experience with NX / Team Center CAD Software
Familiar with PFMEA, DFMEA, DVP&R, FEA and CAE impact analysis tools
Experience using proactive quality tools (Design for Six Sigma)
Experience using reactive quality tools (Kepner-Tregoe / Shainin)
