General Manager
A General Manager is committed to inspiring the team, helping customers succeed, and growing the business with integrity. This professional level sales and management position supports functions on both sides of the business and requires an understanding of store systems, automotive systems, and parts knowledge. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining professional customer relationships, achieving financial metrics, and maintaining service and appearance standards. The position is exempt, requires a minimum of 50‑55 hours per week (excluding meal breaks), and generally follows a schedule of 5‑6 days a week, 11‑hour shifts, including rotating nights and weekends.
Job Description The General Manager achieves overall store sales goals and service objectives, manages and grows professional customer relationships, and ensures the execution of inventory and operational standards. The manager develops, hires, coaches, schedules, and engages store team members, and holds them accountable for delivering on customer expectations (DIY and Professional). This role includes manager‑on‑duty responsibilities and the ability to lead change management while embracing diversity and fostering a respectful environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives
Manage and grow professional customer relationships and sales, including building and holding the team accountable to executing customer action plans
Selection, hiring, development, performance management, coaching, scheduling, and engagement of store team members
Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards
Coach all team members to deliver on customer expectations (DIY and professional)
Manager on duty responsibilities (touch‑base/coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment and completion, safety, open/close duties)
Lead change management
Embrace diversity and foster a respectful environment for both customers and team members
Secondary Responsibilities
Provide DIY service including battery installation, testing, wiper installation, etc.
Assist district/region in other functions upon request

Essential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a General Manager
Working knowledge of automotive systems preferred
Speak and write English (Spanish a plus); communicate effectively and build strong relationships with customers, peers and upper management
Use Microsoft Office effectively (Word, Excel required; PowerPoint preferred)
Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percent
Review and analyze business reports, such as profit and loss statements (P&L)
Hold others accountable, inspect work quality, and give inspiring feedback
Work assorted days, evenings and weekends as needed
Prior experience that sets a General Manager up for success: 2‑3 years managing a team of 10‑20 members in a fast‑paced retail environment
Successful experience managing profitability and proven financial and business acumen
Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Bachelor’s degree in business or related area preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid driver’s license
ASE certification preferred, but not required
Physical Demands Primarily walking or standing, using hands and fingers to handle or feel, reaching with arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment Work is mostly interior but occasionally outdoors and exposed to weather while installing batteries and wiper blades. Possible exposure to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. Environmental noise level is usually moderate.
Position is eligible for sales commission based on individual or store performance.
Base salary likely between $47,000 and $63,000 plus bonus; actual salary determined by hiring manager based on experience and qualifications.
Bonus
Metric 1: 6% commission on every compensation dollar, paid every 4 weeks
Metric 2: 0.45% commission of every controllable profit dollar (profit after labor, shrink, and MyDelivery costs), paid quarterly
