The Director of Finance oversees all financial operations of the organization, ensuring strong fiscal stewardship, compliance with funding requirements, and sound financial planning. This role leads accounting functions, budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management to support the organization’s mission and long‑term sustainability.

Responsibilities

Oversee all daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.

Ensure accurate and timely month‑end and year‑end close processes.

Maintain an effective system of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure integrity of financial data.

Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and grant drawdowns.

Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with leadership and department managers.

Prepare financial forecasts and provide ongoing analysis of trends, variances, and operational impacts.

Monitor budgets throughout the year and advise leadership of risks or opportunities.

Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, dashboards, and reports for leadership, staff, funders, and the Board of Directors.

Present financial updates during board and committee meetings.

Ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements, restricted funding tracking, and cost allocation rules.

Coordinate annual audits and serve as primary liaison to external auditors.

Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal, state, and local regulations, including OMB Uniform Guidance for federal grants (if applicable).

Oversee organizational policies related to finance, procurement, and risk management.

Ensure accurate tracking of restricted funds, grant budgets, and allowable expenses.

Collaborate with program managers to monitor grant spending and reporting deadlines.

Review grant proposals and contracts for financial viability and compliance requirements.

Supervise finance staff and support professional development within the department.

Partner with leadership to support strategic planning and organizational sustainability.

Provide financial insights to inform operational decisions.

Key Performance Measurements Accuracy and Timeliness of Reporting:

Monthly financial statements and reports delivered on schedule with minimal errors.

Internal Control Compliance:

Implementation and maintenance of effective internal controls with no significant audit findings.

Budget and Forecast Performance:

Preparation and adherence to approved budgets; variances analyzed and explained in a timely manner.

Cash Flow Management:

Adequate liquidity maintained; weekly projections accurate and aligned with operational needs.

Stakeholder Satisfaction:

Positive feedback from management, Board members, auditors, and external partners regarding financial transparency and responsiveness.

Physical Activities & Requirements

Office-based with potential hybrid options depending on company policy.

Collaborative team environment within a growing property management company.

Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods of time.

Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment.

Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching as needed.

Ability to lift and carry office supplies or files up to [10–20] pounds.

Clear vision at close range for reading and computer work; ability to adjust focus.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience, including staff supervision. Preferably in a non‑profit environment.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with RealPage Financial Suite preferred.

Experience managing audits, budgets and financial reporting.

Strong Knowledge of GAAP and non‑profit accounting standards.
