About the Role The Engineering Supervisor will guide a talented group of engineers and professionals in executing the Capital Improvement Plan for the Wastewater Treatment Division’s conveyance and treatment systems. The role is a hybrid work model that blends remote and in‑person work.

Responsibilities

Manage an engineering work group providing civil or mechanical design services for projects that create or modify wastewater facilities.

Plan, organize, and direct the work of assigned staff; monitor work distribution with discipline leads; estimate staffing needs and schedules to meet completion dates.

Evaluate work progress and results and initiate changes to achieve work objectives as needed.

Direct the technical quality assurance review of drawings, specifications, and contract documents for compliance with engineering or project standards.

Coordinate external consultants involved in design projects and ensure work meets agency technical standards.

Forecast staffing needs and plan engineering work to cover essential functions, balancing consultants and staff for productivity and quality.

Provide or arrange official engineering positions on daily operations of WTD facilities and future facility designs, including standards, equipment, and design philosophy.

Provide engineering advice to external County initiatives as requested.

Qualifications You Bring

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Washington.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related field.

At least 18 years of progressively responsible civil or mechanical engineering experience.

Advanced knowledge of contract packaging and contract administration for public works.

Demonstrated skill in assessing and determining necessary resources for successful work programs.

Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, construction methods, materials, and equipment for collection, conveyance, and wastewater treatment facilities.

Experience in a large, complex industrial or utility setting, preferably wastewater treatment, with engineering design, project management, construction, or maintenance in capital replacement programs.

Prior experience supervising engineers.

Prior experience mentoring and training entry‑level engineers.

Working Conditions The Engineering team operates under a hybrid model: a mix of office presence and telecommuting, with a primary onsite location at King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104. Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements. A county‑issued laptop is provided; a reliable home workspace with internet is required.
