Job Summary Assists with the management and supervision of the Risk Management Program for the organization. Utilizes educational knowledge and clinical expertise to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, develop and implement measures to minimize risk of injury to patients, visitors and staff, and reduce loss or damage to property. Responds to complaints that cannot be addressed at the facility level, develops educational content and best practices systemwide, and supervises assigned personnel with professional judgment.

Essential Functions

Develops programs and initiatives for the system‑wide risk management program and ensures consistency with organizational philosophies.

Creates, maintains, and disseminates written system‑wide policies and procedures related to risk management activities; represents risk management at system‑wide clinical best practice meetings.

Reviews operational risks and assists in deployment of strategies to mitigate legal risks associated with practice and environmental safety gaps to optimize patient safety, clinical outcomes, and regulatory compliance.

Uses the electronic medical record to identify comorbidities, complications, and compliance with hospital policies and community standards of care.

Manages incidents at the system level, researches and provides guidance on unresolved clinical risk management issues, maintains occurrence reporting system, tracks and trends incident data, and creates aggregate reports for executive management.

Investigates findings, reports to claims staff for PCEs, coordinates investigations with legal counsel, and defends claims against the facility.

Collaborates with medical staff services, quality, regulatory, education, IT, legal, and other departments to address risk management issues, reduces duplication, and leverages best practices.

Provides day‑to‑day technical and clinical leadership on escalated or complex duties and performs other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience – required.

Master's degree – preferred.

Five years of technical experience – preferred.

One year of leadership experience – preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice – required.
