This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career.
Responsibilities Provide custody and control of inmates in a penal institution. Supervises lower level personnel such as Corrections Master Sergeant, Corrections Sergeant and Corrections Cadet.
Qualifications
Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security.
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
One year of experience in any field.
Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse or sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.
Job Duties In this role, you will:
Serve as a Shift Supervisor.
Provide internal security.
Review disciplinary actions against inmates and staff.
Inspect buildings, equipment, and job sites for compliance with all fire and safety codes.
Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type: PROMOTION
of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C – CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC).
The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Compensation This position is eligible for a Special Entrance Rate of $23.03 per hour.
Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and not the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
