Electro-Optical System Engineer – Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc.
Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. (SBIR) is recruiting a Sr. Electro-Optical Systems Engineer to design, integrate, and characterize electro-optical test systems for infrared scene projectors, standard commercial products, and integrated electro-optical test systems. SBIR is a subsidiary of HEICO Corporation and provides advanced infrared and electro-optical test instrumentation to military and commercial sensor systems worldwide.
Responsibilities
Perform system performance modeling, trade studies, and requirements flow‑down analysis to support product development.
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering staff to guide new product development and sustain standard products.
Optimize process flow and documentation with the technical team.
Develop test plans and procedures based on system requirements.
Collect and analyze test data, calibrate components, and achieve optimal system performance.
Interact directly with customers during factory acceptance testing and travel to customer facilities to lead on‑site system installation, integration, and training.
Perform routine troubleshooting, test, and calibration in support of ongoing programs and special‑purpose programs.
Support sales by performing analysis to identify possible solutions to potential customers’ applications.
Qualifications – Required
BS/BA in Physics, Engineering, or a relevant technical degree.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in electro‑optics, infrared systems, or related field (advanced degree may count toward years of experience).
Excellent troubleshooting capability and analytical skills.
Ability to set priorities and organize incoming projects.
