Job Description The Head of Cloud and Enterprise Infrastructure provides leadership and oversees the design, implementation, and management of Valley National Bank’s enterprise IT Infrastructure and Cloud platforms. The role involves leading multiple IT teams, driving innovation through Cloud solutions, and ensuring security, resilience, and scalability of systems. The ideal candidate should be experienced in Cloud Platform & Infrastructure engineering strategy, architecture, design, technology selection/evaluation, and the deployment of innovative solutions focused on delivering business outcomes.

Responsibilities

Build best‑in‑class technical platform and infrastructure solutions on a hybrid cloud to address scalability, reliability, security, and performance requirements.

Work across geographically dispersed and integrated project teams to develop the strategy, architecture, roadmaps, design, and implementation of cloud platform and infrastructure solutions.

Provide leadership, vision, and oversight across the engineering pillars to deliver holistic end‑to‑end solutions.

Create a collaborative culture through robust communication, governance, and partnership with internal and external entities.

Implement security controls and ensure security and regulatory compliance in a modern, hybrid multi‑cloud environment.

Design and implement an enterprise management program focused on best‑in‑class solutions across technology platforms for impact analysis, design, and resiliency reviews.

Design and implement hybrid multi‑cloud architecture.

Develop and manage a Cloud Center of Excellence.

Define architecture patterns for private and public cloud.

Preference for cloud‑native and serverless architecture.

Container‑based architectures.

Hybrid environment to include general compute, network, and storage.

Highly available designs to support platforms with varying business RTO/RPO requirements.

Multi‑service, inter‑network, hybrid connectivity optimized for multiple line‑of‑business applications and data integration.

Deploy infrastructure‑as‑code automation capabilities (Terraform, ARM, Cloud Formation, etc.).

Develop a DevSecOps practice and onboarding program to accelerate application deployment.

Environment strategy—management, deployment, and configuration management.

Operational security and excellence programs (e.g., logging and monitoring strategies).

Infrastructure training—cloud training program, best practices, infrastructure‑as‑code, etc.

Lead and coordinate the work of an integrated project team comprising developers, subject matter experts, database administrators, system administrators, and system architects to implement and maintain enterprise‑level applications.

Accountable for the development, monitoring, and compliance to the relevant budget.

Drive optimal forecasting and capacity planning across service areas for high availability, lifecycle management, and disaster recovery planning (DRP).

Ensure quality and performance of services provided from managed service providers, and sponsor engineering topics, related projects, and continuous transformation efforts.

Provide direction to the team to ensure managed service partners have the necessary process, tools, and support.

Work with operations teams, managed service partners, and vendor management to ensure equipment and services adhere to overarching strategy, standards, and policies.

Partner with Vendor Performance Management to ensure managed service providers adhere to contractual and commercial obligations (e.g., ARCs, RRCs, SLA credits).

Document and communicate roadmaps, standards, and business continuity planning, and serve as the focal point for all technology and related matters.

Manage the budget responsibly for in‑scope related services, prioritize capital investments, and recommend adoption.

Ensure high quality and performance of services from SaaS providers.

Maintain professional knowledge of current trends and developments in IT infrastructure and synergies across technology pillars.

Requirements Required Skills

Ability to thrive in demanding industries, driven by technology and innovation with constraints imposed by various regulatory bodies and security.

Deep expertise in evolving cloud solutions, security, methodologies, design patterns, and best practices.

Extensive experience with VMWare and Azure platforms. Practical knowledge of other cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP and familiarity with trends in cloud methodologies.

Knowledge of infrastructure solutions (storage, server, network, etc.) in support of hybrid environment.

Demonstrated ability to select, develop, train, lead, and inspire teams. Create a culture of continuous learning.

Strong business acumen, process management, and vendor management experience and skills.

Proven track record of leading complex project and operational teams.

Proven track records in successfully developing and managing business disaster recovery and continuity planning.

Ability to generate trust, build alliances across the organization, and orchestrate interdisciplinary teams to the benefit of customers.

Ability to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic operational delivery.

Understanding of machine learning frameworks and AI concepts.

Hands‑on experience with core LAN/WAN network technologies.

Cloud networking—including Express Route, MPLS gateway, IPsec, Microsoft Peering, Private Peering.

Technical Skills: Azure and AWS IaaS, PaaS, Containers (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.).

Understanding of Database as a Service and relational database management and system (RDBMS) and NoSQL.

Background in consulting in the financial space is preferred, but not required.

Deployment and configuration baseline automation, including popular toolsets (Chef) and technologies (PowerShell, Runbooks).

Azure AD including PIM.

Cloud/Azure cost management and tagging.

Experience with route tables, access control lists, firewalls, NAT, DNS, IP, and OSI network.

VMWare, Nutanix, Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud experience.

DevOps—including Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, ARM, Azure DevOps, PowerShell, CloudFormation.

Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in applied technical support of complex multi‑vendor environments.

Experience and expertise in technology management in large global organizations in support of leading large multi‑pillar global engineering groups.

Preferred Experience

Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, information technology.

Job Details Pay Range: $146,800.00 – $266,000.00 / year
