What We Do The Maps team at Mapbox sets the standard for dynamic, interactive mapping and real‑time location data visualization on web and mobile. We manage the development of SDKs for web, Android, and iOS, 3D mapping experiences, and API services that help thousands of customers build world‑class location‑based experiences for 300 million daily users. What You’ll Do As the Director of Product for Maps, you will be responsible for driving the vision and strategy for the Maps product portfolio. This portfolio enables developers to serve over 650 M global MAUs through high‑performance APIs and client libraries that deliver dynamic maps, customizable styles, and interactive interfaces in well‑known consumer applications worldwide. You will envision, coordinate, and align the roadmap across multiple products and teams to drive a consistent map rendering, design, and customization experience for our customers, from novice users who want intuitive defaults to power users who want real‑time customization. You’ll dive deep into the nuances of digital mapping, simplifying the development of geospatial applications, abstracting unnecessary complexity from our customers, and inventing on behalf of them to reimagine end‑user experiences. You will obsess over both quantitative and qualitative metrics that define success for the portfolio and teams, lead a collaborative team that looks to you for vision and execution, and help them deliver their best work. Prior technical experience is not required, but being able to stretch technically and understand complex systems will be helpful.
What’s Important For This Role
10+ years of product leadership experience.
Conceptualized and delivered consumer‑oriented or consumer‑facing products.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to establish an ambitious yet realistic product roadmap and effectively communicate this vision to customers and the organization.
Experience in a high‑accountability environment, with the ability to build, operationalize, and scale technically distributed organizations (engineering, product, design, data scientists, etc.).
Ability to think strategically in a high‑growth and fast‑paced business, building conviction through data, analysis, reasoning, and experimentation.
Demonstrated ability to drive go‑to‑market strategies that have resulted in successful product adoption and revenue generation.
Experience with profit and loss responsibility for a business unit.
Nice to Have
Experience with the development of generative AI applications.
5+ years as a PM. You have seen a significant product through a full lifecycle of discovery, development, launch, and adoption. Experience with deprecating/failing a product is a plus, but potential is what’s most important.
Experience working with design tools and/or frontend applications, working with cross‑functional teams to deliver frontend products.

Our annual base compensation for this role ranges from $262,225 to $344,775 for most US locations and 5% to 10% higher for US locations with a higher cost of labor. Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location.
