Job Description
Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics (Ford)
is a non‑profit, board‑governed, and coach‑led competitive swimming organization that has served the Tucson, Arizona community for over 30 years. Ford supports swimmers from the Novice to Junior Nationals level. The club operates three developmental age group programs and a senior group, totaling around 140 USA swimmers, as well as a Masters swim program of 85 USMS swimmers. The team is based out of the University of Arizona’s Hillenbrand Aquatics Center.
The
Head Coach/Program Director
is a full‑time, salaried role responsible for overseeing Ford Aquatics’ entire program, including business administration, staff management as well as active on‑deck coaching. This position necessitates financial acumen in addition to a commitment to high technical standards, team culture, and coaching development. This role requires ongoing collaboration with the University of Arizona Director of Aquatics, the University’s Varsity Swimming and Diving Programs, and the University Athletics Compliance Department.

who prioritizes both athletic performance and character growth, upholding the highest ethical and moral standards.
Qualifications
Proven ability to lead a large, multi‑level swim program
Minimum of 5 years of coaching experience, including leadership roles within a USA Swimming club
Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills with swimmers, parents, staff, and community members
Experience managing finances and operational functions of a swim program
Knowledge of sports science, athlete periodization, and injury prevention best practices
Foster a supportive environment that promotes a love for swimming, continuous improvement, and team growth
Track record of coaching swimmers to advanced levels (State, Sectionals, Futures, etc.)
Proficiency with swim operations platforms (SportsEngine, Meet Manager, etc.)
ASCA level 3 or higher preferred
USA Swimming Core Certification
Maintain all required USA Swimming credentials, including Background Check, Athlete Protection Training, Safety Training, and CPR
Program Director/Head Coaching Responsibilities Team development
Develop, execute and oversee athlete development pathways (e.g., seasonal training plans) for all training groups/swimmers:
Champion swimmer retention and long‑term engagement through age‑appropriate, technique‑focused, and motivational coaching.
Conduct swimmer evaluations and goal‑setting meetings, every season, for swimmers and parents, providing feedback and reinforcement for improvement.
Track swimmers’ progress, goals, and attendance.
Promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and team spirit among swimmers, coaches, and families.
Coach at local and travel meets, including: Sectionals, Futures, TYR Series, Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals, and Olympic Trials.
Attract new athletes and families at all ages and competition levels.
Communication
Foster clear, consistent communication within staff and across all levels of the team.
Provide timely customer service to external community members, including the University of Arizona, prospective members, sponsors, vendors, and others.
Be accessible to athletes and families.
Operations
Lead Ford Aquatics coaching staff.
Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a growth mindset.
Set expectations for training group culture, behavior management, and conflict resolution, and provide guidance or correction, as needed.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches, ensuring consistent technical standards and athlete support across all squads.
Develop professional growth plans for coaching staff, encouraging ongoing education and certification.
Maintain adequate coaching staff
Collaborate with the Board on budget, strategy, and organizational development.
Manage club finances alongside the Treasurer and Board.
Monthly deliverables including but not limited to active roster and finance data
Support fundraising efforts as directed by the Board
Refine the club’s vision, mission, and communication strategy, as needed
Develop and execute growth strategies in partnership with the Board
Maintain and enhance the club’s website and social media presence in coordination with the Board.
Administer and enforce team policies and procedures with general membership and coaching staff.
Manage membership tasks, including registration, roster, and billing.
Participate in continuing education for professional development as identified by the board.
