Summary The Medical Director for Women's Health is located within the Primary Care service and reports directly to the Chief of Primary Care. This position will represent the James H. Quillen VAMC (JHQVAMC) on aspects of Women's Health.

Qualifications To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed

Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia

Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification

(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) -OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences

Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)

PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis

PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged

rather - they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision

Additionally - surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs

Proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred Experience: Experience in Family Practice or Internal Medicine preferred

VA experience preferred

Focus in Women's Health preferred

Duties

Duties include - but are not limited to: Providing clinical care for women Veterans

Administrative responsibilities of the program

Maintaining exceptional Women's Health clinical skills

Administering - coordinating - evaluating - recommending and/or developing program guidelines and policies in the field of Women's Health

Providing patient care in accordance with professional standards - core values and commitment to excellent service

Collaborate with central office and VISN staff on initiatives and programs in the Women's Health area

Serve as liaison between Women's Health and other departments to build working partnerships to develop Comprehensive Care Centers for Women

Initiating - promoting - and supporting the ongoing development of the Women's Health Program using communication skills and varied resources to further Women's Health

Providing expertise in the leadership and management of Women's Health clinical areas

Working with all Clinical disciplines - and various Administrative Staff to provide high quality - continuous and consistent Women's Health outpatient care

Assuring the most effective delivery of Women's Health care - while meeting or exceeding compliance standards

Working closely with the Women Veterans Program Manager (WVPM) - forming the foundation of the women's healthcare team

Participates as a member of the facility Women Veteran's Healthcare Committee Provide on-going collaborative support to the facility WVPM to ensure implementation of national and VISN initiatives Serving as a clinical leader for women's health

Provides clinical expertise in the area of women's health care - as evidenced by their clinical role in facility (i.e

PCP in women's health

preceptor for Residents - NP-PA students - Medical Students) Promotes sharing best practices in the facility's women's health clinics and Women's Center

Participating in programs and activities to raise awareness of Women Veteran's Healthcare offered by the VA and JHQVAMC

Activities may include: Outreach programs - Educational seminars - etc

Establishing priories and direction for implementing quality improvement and is held responsible for excellent achievement on quality measures that apply to women's health

Provides clinical expertise and guidance to ensure compliance with all performance measures specific to women

Clinical performance measure responsibilities are to include - but are not limited to: Cervical Cancer Screening - Breast Cancer Screening - Diabetic Measures - Ischemic Heart Disease Measures - Flu and Pneumococcal Vaccine Measures

Regularly evaluates EPRP data to ensure accuracy and provides regular feedback to appropriate clinical providers Working in collaboration with Primary Care Leadership and participating in all Primary Care Leadership meetings at the facility level

Actively participates in PACT implementation teams to ensure the needs of women veterans are met in a comprehensive manner
