CommodityAI
CommodityAI is building AI that automates workflows in one of the world’s most operationally complex industries—commodities. These companies move the resources our world runs on: the grains that feed us, the metals that build our cities, and the energy that powers everything in between.
Behind every trade and shipment, critical data lives across emails, PDFs, and legacy systems, slowing operations, increasing errors, and tying up teams in manual work. CommodityAI is a digital operator for the physical commodities world. It continuously interprets trade data, reconciles movements, and flags issues in real‑time to give teams clarity across every transaction.
We’re redefining how commodity businesses execute by embedding intelligence into their daily workflows—helping them manage risk, streamline logistics, and move global resources with greater speed and accuracy.
Why Join Us We’re a Y Combinator–backed company (W24 batch) driving AI adoption within the $10 T+ commodities industry, backed by top investors including Y Combinator, Rebel Fund, and the founders of YouTube and Reddit.
As one of the earliest hires, you’ll shape not just our product but how we build as a company. You’ll ship features, influence strategy, and make decisions that impact customers and the business every day. We move fast, operate with extreme ownership, and deeply value engineers who can think like founders.
Who You Are We’re looking for a senior or staff‑level engineer with experience building in fast‑paced startup environments. You thrive on autonomy, make great decisions, and take pride in seeing your work drive real customer impact. You won’t just code—you’ll design and build agentic, LLM‑powered systems that operate in production, shaping how our customers interact with data and automation.
Have sound technical judgment and can make trade‑offs that balance speed, quality, and long‑term value.
Operate with trust and agency, freeing others from needing to manage or unblock you.
Hands‑on experience deploying AI/LLM‑based systems in real‑world settings (retrieval, evaluation, orchestration, or structured extraction).
Are deeply curious about the problems we’re solving—whether in commodities, logistics, or applied AI.
Work best when given context, not control—you decide what needs to be done and move.
What You’ll Do
Build and scale the core systems that power our intelligent automation platform.
Work across the stack—from backend APIs and data pipelines to LLM orchestration and frontend workflows.
Design and deploy agentic AI components that handle reasoning, extraction, and decision‑making at scale.
Collaborate directly with customers to understand problems and deliver meaningful, production‑ready solutions.
Contribute to a culture of ownership, autonomy, and trust—where every engineer is empowered to make high‑impact decisions.
Qualifications
Empathetic, collaborative, and driven—believing no problem is too big to solve.
6+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally at a fast‑paced startup or high‑growth company.
Proven ability to own projects end‑to‑end—from idea to architecture, implementation, and deployment.
Experience building and shipping LLM or agent‑based systems in production, including orchestration, structured outputs, or evaluation workflows.
Strong in React, TypeScript, Go, Node, or Python (we value judgment and adaptability over any single stack).
Exceptional technical judgment—knows when to move fast and when to build for the long term.
Experience making impactful product or system decisions that improved user experience or team velocity.
Demonstrated ownership mentality—acts in the best interest of the company and customer without waiting for direction.
Passion for solving complex, real‑world operational problems—ideally with exposure to commodities, logistics, or data automation.
Benefits
Meaningful equity in a rapidly growing company.
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
Opportunity to shape the future of an old‑school yet vital global industry.
A collaborative, high‑trust environment where your decisions have real impact.
