Lead Counselor California – Pinnacle Treatment Centers, Inc.
Position Overview As a Lead Counselor, you will provide leadership for other counselors, manage a caseload, participate in facility committees, and carry out management‑related duties as directed by the Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Director. You will assist with problem‑solving, conflict resolution, readiness for state and CARF visits, and other supervisory assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other essential documentation in accordance with federal and state standards and agency policies.
Provide patients with orientation regarding program objectives, phase system requirements, rules, sanctions, hours of service, patient rights, and other information.
Assess and place patients according to treatment phases in line with federal and state standards.
Maintain current clinical documentation and patient charts per established policies.
Provide crisis counseling, identify resources and coping strategies, and support resolution of crisis situations.
Counsel patients who refuse to comply with program requirements and increase awareness of non‑compliance consequences.
Arrange referrals to community agencies when appropriate.
Conduct treatment plan reviews and participate in case conferences and case reviews.
Review and sign counselor documentation as directed by Clinical Supervisor or Director.
Assist with overall direction and development of substance abuse services.
Participate in treatment team meetings, grievance hearings, and staff meetings.
Assist with annual performance reviews and in‑service training for clinical teammates.
Monitor clinical records for quality and compliance, conduct mock inspections.
Perform new patient intakes and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
Provide training and technical assistance to community agencies.
Guide counselors in managing difficult or complex patients.
Maintain accurate case files per federal, state, and PTC requirements.
Oversee substance abuse counseling case assignments and discharges.
Complete all required training courses and attend ongoing training.
Other duties as assigned.
Pay Range
$28.00 – $32.00 per hour
Qualifications
Certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor by a California‑approved agency or current credentials as licensed or license‑eligible with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or the Board of Psychology.
Maintain Board requirements, including necessary clinical supervision.
Proof of licensure or certification by a state‑approved agency must be provided immediately upon employment.
Experience in patient evaluation, treatment planning, and counseling services.
Knowledge of illicit drug use, treatment, and addiction.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Professional demeanor and customer‑service orientation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
Demonstrated leadership qualities among the counseling team.
Superior clinical skills and the ability to mentor others.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Services or a related field.
Certifications: CCAPP, CADAC III/II/I, CAADC, LMFT.
Team‑player mentality and detail orientation.
