University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics and Division of Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (NDBP) invites applications for the Division Director position. Applicants must be board certified in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) or Neurodevelopmental Disability (NDD) or hold a General Academic Pediatrics or Clinical Psychology PhD with emphasis on children with disabilities, including autism or complex care, and be currently ranked at the Associate or Full Professor level.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement the vision, goals, and strategic plan for NDBP in alignment with departmental mission.

Lead faculty across clinical and academic mission areas: clinical service (including three tracks of care – motor/medical complexity, autism and other developmental differences, at‑risk child & family context), education of trainees at all levels (including DBP fellowship), research program development, and administrative activities.

Oversee divisional faculty, advance their careers by providing professional and personal development opportunities, and ensure high‑quality training.

Support research activities and foster a culture of inquiry, scholarly excellence, and innovation.

Create an environment of excellence and innovation in clinical practice that supports positive patient outcomes.

Collaborate closely with the School of Education to maintain a state‑of‑the‑art multi‑tier autism assessment program and provide leadership and faculty for Blue Ridge LEND.

Qualifications & Preferences

Board certified in DBP, NDD, or a related discipline; or hold a Clinical Psychology PhD with relevant emphasis.

Ranked at the Associate or Full Professor level.

Established academic and clinical leadership in motor, cognitive, and at‑risk disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders.

Active research program that aligns with the division’s mission.

Strong interdisciplinary leadership and clinical experience across the NDBP mission areas.

Division Context The NDBP receives over $1 million in state‑level funding to support the Virginia Mental Health Access Program and the interdisciplinary Blue Ridge Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) grant. The division collaborates with the pediatric psychology service and offers multilingual services to a majority of publicly insured patients.
