The Opportunity As Halo ramps up volume on its initial pilot production line, we are seeking an experienced applications engineer to support qualifications and serve as the technical point of contact for Halo’s customers. This is a customer-facing role that will also collaborate with Halo’s production and R+D teams to help drive new technological advancements and ensure Halo’s technology meets and exceeds customer needs. The applications engineering team reports to the sales organization and serves a highly cross‑functional role within Halo. This is an in‑person role in Santa Clara, CA.
Job Description As a Staff Applications Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities:
Engage directly with customers to lead qualification efforts, troubleshoot customer issues, and win business for Halo
Establish relationships with customers to understand project requirements and communicate project details to internal and external stakeholders
Develop a thorough expertise of the technical details of Halo’s entire technology flow, including laser slicing/shaping processes as well as wafer finishing processes and metrology (grind/cmp/clean/inspection)
Collect, summarize and present technical results to customers and as well as internal team members
Closely monitor performance of customer orders and demos, providing realtime feedback to Halo’s production team and customers to ensure project successes
Conduct hands‑on experiments to develop new processes to serve new applications/markets as Halo engages with new customers
Engage and collaborate with third‑party vendors to continually evaluate and stay up‑to‑date with industry best practices
Proactively identify opportunities for value addition and quality improvement of Halo’s products and play an active role in helping set the company’s technical priorities
Basic Qualifications
MS or PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience (or BS with 7+ years of relevant experience) in engineering, science or a related discipline.
Experience in semiconductor process engineering, ideally in one or more of the following areas: laser processing, wafer grinding, chemical mechanical planarization, wafer cleaning, or wafer defect inspection
Experience operating technically complicated production or laboratory equipment
Proficiency with various metrology tools and optical inspection techniques
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience in the silicon carbide wafer industry
Excellent understanding of and intuition for physical processes, both optical and mechanical
Proficiency in data analysis, ideally expert‑level proficiency both in SQL and JMP (or similar software)
Outstanding detail‑oriented analytical, creative, and problem‑solving skills, with the capacity to think critically to diagnose issues and optimize complex processes
Excellent communication skills and proficiency to clearly and concisely present data and focus on the most important aspects of any issue
