Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Hospice Administrator/Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our clinical and operational teams. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day hospice functions, ensuring compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation and California state regulations, and supporting a culture of compassionate, high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership for the hospice program, including clinical operations, compliance, and quality assurance.
- Supervise and support all clinical staff, including RN case managers, CNAs, MSWs, chaplains, and office staff.
- Ensure all care is delivered according to the Plan of Care, CMS CoPs, and California hospice requirements.
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings and oversee care coordination.
- Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation in the EMR.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, and onboarding/training for clinical personnel.
- Oversee QAPI program, policies, audits, and ongoing survey readiness.
- Serve as the primary liaison with physicians, facilities, family members, and community partners.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, including license maintenance, incident reporting, EMR audits, and chart reviews.
- Support the development of strategic goals, growth initiatives, and community outreach.
- Assist with emergency preparedness planning.
- Represent the agency during surveys and audits.
Requirements
- Current California RN license in good standing.
- Minimum 2–3 years of hospice nursing experience; leadership or supervisory experience required.
- In-depth knowledge of hospice regulations (CMS CoPs, AHCCCS/Medicare, California Dept. of Health).
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a multidisciplinary team.
- Must pass background check and meet all California regulatory requirements.
- Valid CA driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- Previous experience as a DON or Hospice Administrator.
- CHPN, CHPCA, or other hospice/palliative care certifications.
- EMR experience (
- Strong survey/survey-readiness background.
